Manuel Morais Guitar/Vocals for Magic BusManuel Morais

Manuel Morais was born in 1969 in Villa Nova de Gaia, Portugal. His father was an accomplished musician who no doubt enriched and influenced Manuel’s world. Manuel first picked up the guitar at the age of nine. Manuel had the good fortune to find a 65 Fender Mustang Guitar and a Super Reverb Fender amp in his dad’s closet. His life changed in that moment. When he plugged in his father’s guitar and he heard the beautiful sound and tones resonate in the air for the first time, it was everything for him. No words could describe the sensation that took hold of his life in that moment and all journeys in music thereafter. A quick learner, Manuel learned how to play by ear with no teacher and no books for several years. At the age of 12, he was still overcome by his love of music. His family moved to South America and he found himself sitting and listening to all his brother’s records for periods at a time. This inspired him to put his first band together. His first performance in front of a live audience was at his school where he blew away all his mates with his talent. Manuel played for more than 15 years at South American festivals such as Las Bellas Artes in Valencia, Venezuela with his first established band, the “Manuel Morais Band.” After a long journey, Manuel decided to go to Australia to look for more opportunities. After playing with several bands in Australia, he felt he was close to finding the real deal and was drawn to Seattle where he put together his first local band called, "Simple Machine.” For the next two years, this new band toured all over the NW where finally, Manuel crossed paths with some very talented musicians to perform with and together they found amazing chemistry on stage and off.  Manuel’s guitar style has been described as soulful, taking inspiration from 1960s-era soul singers and players like B.B King, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Etta James, Janis Joplin, and many more. At this time, Manuel plays an Eric Clapton Fender Signature, a Jackson guitar, and a Yamaha acoustic.
